Outsourcing your marketing
Do you wear the hat of everything?
As small business owners you wear the “hat of everything”.
However, that doesn’t mean you are experts in everything.
Knowing which activities your time is best spent on to get the best results for your business is an important part of running your business. And that includes knowing which activities you should hand over to someone else.
So, let’s talk about outsourcing.
What can you outsource?
There are many services that you can outsource. Outsourcing your marketing is obviously one of them.
Other services you can consider outsourcing include:
- Payroll
- Bookkeeping
- Accounting
- HR
- Admin
- IT Management
And the list goes on. These days there are specialists everywhere, so you can outsource almost everything.
Benefits of outsourcing
There are a number of benefits to outsourcing.
Here’s just a few:
- You actually save time and spend your precious time on the business activities that you’re best at
- Access to expertise – you have specialists in their field working for you and making sure best practice for that service is delivered
- Better efficiency because you’re using experts for specific roles and business activities
- Reduced costs because the expert you’re outsourcing to is responsible for investment required for those services
When to outsource
I’m going to talk specifically about outsourcing your marketing here.
A lot of business owners like to do their own marketing. However, many tell me that marketing falls to the bottom of their very long to-do list and just doesn’t get done.
Sound familiar?
Basically, you don't have time to do your marketing and it’s just not getting done.
Or you haven’t started your marketing because there are just so many things to do. It feels overwhelming and you don't know where to start.
If this is the case, then outsourcing your marketing is definitely the way to go because you know that it will get done and get done right.
How to work out if outsourcing is for you
Yes, outsourcing your marketing (or any other service) is a financial investment.
On the surface you may think doing your marketing yourself will save you some $$$.
However, your time has a financial value too.
So, you may not actually be saving! Or spending your time on what you do and know best for your business.
To work out if outsourcing is an option, use the following process.
I’m using outsourcing your marketing as an example.
- calculate the time you spend (or anticipate spending) on marketing your business
- times that by your hourly rate to get what your marketing is costing you to do yourself
- get a quote from a marketing consultant/specialist/agency to deliver your marketing activities for you
- compare the two
You may be surprised at how little your investment in outsourcing will be.
And the bonus is that you'll have a specialist marketer (like me) doing your marketing for you and making sure your marketing gets done!
Of course, if you'd like to discuss your marketing options then get in touch – I'd love to help you.
